Yes, Sandra Oh knows she’s a ‘funny choice’ to host the Golden Globe Awards
Sandra Oh is just as surprised as you are that she was asked to co-host next month’s Golden Globe Awards with Andy Samberg.

“I remember talking to Andy and saying, ‘I don’t have a persona. I don’t do this,’” Oh tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Hopefully people are having a good reaction to this because it is a bit of a funny choice.”

Oh and Samberg met when they were paired to present Best Comedy Directing at the Emmys in a bit that included a “La La Land” joke and Oh ripping the envelope in half. They “immediately had a rapport,” Oh says, and “I trust him” and “adore him so much.” golden globes 2019 live

SEE Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg to host 2019 Golden Globes — is she a lock to win now?

Still, even with a comedian and awards show host pro next to her, she’s understandably “terrified” of the gig. “I am super thrilled, so it’s the good terror,” she says. “It’s like when you have to do something and you can’t see how you could possibly pull it together, but that uncertainty excites you.”

Oh, of course, won’t just be a co-host that night, but a nominee as well. She’s up for Best Drama Actress for “Killing Eve,” which she’s currently favored to win. It would be her second Globe, following her supporting victory for “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2006, when she exclaimed that she felt like “someone set me on fire” in her speech.

“I think I drank like five bottles of champagne, and my body burnt through it so quickly that I was sober the entire time,” Oh recalls of that night. “I was sharp as a tack. I love the Globes. Come on! Everyone is all smushed in there, starving and drinking! You don’t get these shots often. And when you’re further along in your life and career, you really, really appreciate them.”

The 76th Golden Globe Awards airs Sunday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. ET 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
